Chin Enhancement (Genioplasty)

Our doctors perform genioplasty in order to reshape the chin and jowl area. Appreance can be imporved for those people who are dissatisfied with the shape and size of their jawy. Genioplasty is a surgical procedure in which the projection or the length of the chin is changed.

Reasons for Surgery

Reasons include the size and sha shape of the chin. Conditions may be natural or due to external trauma to the face. The operation can be performed on all age groups, including teens and the elderly.

Before Surgery

A medical history along with a careful examiniation is conducted in order to evaluate your general health. We will dicsuss with you the way your chin can look in relation to your other facial features. Digital photographs and computer imaging allow our doctors to evaluate the appropriate procedure to achieve the desired results.

Method of Surgery

Surgery is usually performed under IV Seadation or general anesthesia. The surgery is done through the mouth to avoid any noticable scars. The procedure can sometimes be done by placing a prosthetic implant. In more advanced cases, our doctors can completely reposition your chin bone in the best possible place, based on the preoperative examiniation and workup. This is a more technically demaning procedure but often leaves the patient with a more natural appearance (as opposed to the look of the "done" chin) and avoids the need for prosthetic implants. It is not unusual to combine genioplasty with rhinoplasty or jaw surgery to improve the profile.

The recovery takes one to two week.s Most people resume their normal activities within a week. Following p, a special bandage is sometimes applied to the chin area to aid with a speedy recovery.

Pain is minnimal and is controlled with medications. Bruising occurs around the chin, but begins to fade within a few days. Discoloration usually disappears in two weeks.
